Burton Is Genesee County's Second-Largest City. Its Best Bread Still Comes From a Home Kitchen.

Burton is the second-largest city in Genesee County, with its own schools, its own city hall, its own identity separate from Flint next door. It's easy to assume a city that size would have plenty of good bakeries close by. The truth is, the best sourdough near Burton still comes from somewhere much smaller: a home kitchen in Mount Morris with a wood-fired oven.
Small Batch, on Purpose
Renegade Sourdough isn't trying to scale into a storefront or a second location. Every loaf is made by hand, in small batches, using a live sourdough starter and a fermentation process that takes 18 to 24 hours. That's not something that scales well, and that's exactly the point. Staying small is what keeps the bread actually good.
What Burton Customers Are Used To
If you know your way around South Center Road and Manor Drive, or you cut through Burton on your way to Flint, Grand Blanc, or Davison, you're already closer to Mount Morris than it might seem. A lot of Burton customers first find Renegade Sourdough through word of mouth rather than a storefront sign, which tells you something about how this kind of bread actually spreads.
What to Expect
Every loaf is wood-fired and slow-fermented, made with just flour, water, salt, and a starter, no shortcuts and no dough conditioners. Pickup happens every Tuesday in Mount Morris, cash or tap-to-pay, with about a week's lead time on orders. There's no shipping or delivery, just fresh bread made close to home.
Burton might be the bigger city on paper. The better bread still comes from somewhere smaller.

About the Baker
Merrit is the baker behind Renegade Sourdough. A self-taught fire-and-flour obsessive who traded modern shortcuts for wild fermentation and a hand-built wood-fired oven.
