Looking for Real Wood-Fired Sourdough Near Flint, MI? Here's Where Locals Are Finding It

If you've searched "sourdough bread near me" and landed on a grocery store loaf that's been sitting in plastic since Tuesday, you already know the problem. Real sourdough, slow fermented and baked over an actual wood fire, isn't something you find on a shelf. It's something you find from someone who still bakes the old way.
That's us. Renegade Sourdough is a wood-fired cottage bakery based in Mount Morris, just north of Flint. We've built a following across Genesee County by doing things the way bread used to be made, before commercial yeast, before shortcuts, before "artisan" became a marketing word instead of a real one.
Who we serve
We're a short drive from most of Genesee County, and pickup customers regularly come from:
- Flint
- Flushing
- Grand Blanc
- Montrose
- Clio
- Swartz Creek
- Mount Morris
We don't ship. Everything is baked to order and picked up fresh, which is part of why it actually tastes like something.
How it works
Every loaf is baked in a wood-fired oven, the same way bread has been made for centuries. No shortcuts, no commercial additives, no rushing the ferment. We take orders online, bake fresh, and hand off pickup every Tuesday. Cash or tap-to-pay at pickup, no accounts, no subscriptions, no fuss.
Because everything is made in small batches in a home kitchen under Michigan's Cottage Food Law, we're not turning out thousands of identical loaves. We're turning out bread the way it's supposed to taste, and that means ordering ahead. Most orders need about a week's lead time.
Why wood-fired matters
A wood-fired oven doesn't just add smoke flavor. It changes the whole bake. The high, dry heat gives sourdough a shatter-crisp crust and a deeply caramelized flavor that a standard oven can't replicate. It's more work. It's less predictable. It's also the whole reason this bread tastes different from anything you'll find in a Flint grocery aisle.
